JULIE SHERWOOD

Candidate for City Councillor in Port Coquitlam
People need a voice at City Hall — for dignity, accessibility and care for every stage of life.

I moved to the Tri-Cities in 2015 and have made this community my home. I am a mother, a business owner, a community volunteer and someone who believes that strong communities are built when we look out for one another.

My experience includes leading a Girl Guides unit, volunteering with Big Sisters of BC, fostering for the SPCA, participating in Tri-Cities community organizations and supporting community initiatives such as the Metro Vancouver Food Drive.

I have also spent years running a local business and working directly with government organizations, giving me practical experience with budgets, licensing, regulations, employees, financial management and advocating for a business to succeed. I specialize in auditing, restructuring, and saving local businesses from financial distress to preserve community jobs and strengthen our tax base.

My Vision for Port Coquitlam

A City Where Everyone Belongs

Port Coquitlam should be an inclusive, diverse and welcoming community where people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds have a voice.

I want to build stronger connections between generations and create opportunities for residents to volunteer, participate and contribute.

Our seniors have spent decades building our communities. They deserve to be supported, respected and valued — not forgotten.

Our young people also deserve opportunities to learn, volunteer and develop a sense of responsibility and community.

I want to encourage programs that connect high school students with seniors and families, including opportunities for students to earn volunteer hours, credits or scholarships while building meaningful relationships. Seniors can share their stories, knowledge and life experience, while young people can provide companionship, technology assistance and help with everyday tasks.
